How to Make Class Valentines with the Foil Quill

Each year for Valentine’s Day my youngest daughter and I have fun coming up with DIY class valentines for her to share at school. She really loves bubble gum right now and wanted to include that in her class valentines, so this year we decided to go for pocket valentines to hold a pack of bubble gum for each of her classmates.

We really liked the modern look and colors of the gum packaging, so that was our inspiration for the colors of cardstock we chose for the pockets. We also wanted to add the sparkle of foiling, so we pulled out the Foil Quill pens and my Silhouette Cameo 4.

Let’s start with how we made the foiled tags, and then I’ll show how I made the pockets with the Pocket Punch Board.

First, I created the design in my software using a couple of single line fonts that I have. I made the foiling lines (the text) a different color than the cutting lines (a simple circle) so I could do each job separately.

Untitled-1

Then I plugged my standard tip Foil Quill pen into my power bank to let it heat up for about 5 minutes. While waiting for that, I placed a 12×12 sheet of smooth white cardstock on my cutting mat, and covered that with an 11×11 sheet of Fuschia pink foil that I cut.

IMG_3705

Once the Foil Quill pen was hot, I added the D adapter to it and inserted it into the blade holder in my machine. With all other Silhouette machines you’ll use the A adapter, but the new Cameo 4 has a different holder and the D adapter fits perfectly!

IMG_3706

In my software I selected the foiling lines and foiled on my cardstock first, making sure NOT to unload the mat once it was finished.

Untitled-2

Then I carefully removed the foil with the mat still loaded in the machine and switched out the Foil Quill pen for the blade.

IMG_3715IMG_3719

In my software I selected the cutting lines and cut circles around each of the foiled tags. This is my favorite part about using the Foil Quill with my electronic cutting machine–combining the foiling with the cutting features! It’s so convenient!

Untitled-3

Once the foiled tags were finished, I cut slightly larger circles from the colored cardstock as a mat for the tags. Then I got to work making the pockets for the packs of gum!

Premium Paper Trimmer by We R Memory Keepers

I trimmed my cardstock to the size indicated on the chart included with the Pocket Punch Board based on the size pocket I selected. Then, following the included instructions, I cut, scored, and adhered the pockets together.

Tip: my favorite adhesive for folded paper projects is hot glue, and my favorite hot glue gun is the We R USB Mini Glue Gun. It’s portable and has a steady flow of power from the USB plug rather than batteries that run out.

To assemble these class valentines I added the tags with foam adhesive squares for dimension, included small enamel heart stickers from the Dear Lizzy She’s Magic collection, and then tied some twine around the top.

To keep the pack of bubble gum from sliding out of the pocket I added a small foam adhesive square to the back of each pack.

My daughter is a big fan of word puns and bubble gum, so she’s excited to share these with her friends at school for Valentine’s Day! Thanks for stopping by and happy crafting friends!

Valentine’s Day Décor with the Banner Punch Board

Hello, We R fans! It’s Meghann Andrew, and I am so excited to be with you for my first blog post here on the We R Memory Keepers blog! Valentine’s Day is upon us, and after clearing my house of holiday décor, I thought it was time to decorate for the next season, the one that celebrates LOVE! Since I did not have any Valentine’s décor on hand, I decided to start by making my own simple Valentine’s banner using the must-have Banner Punch Board.

Valentine's Day Banner with the Banner Punch Board by Meghann Andrew for We R Memory Keepers

I decided to grab the new Lucky Us collection from Pink Paislee, a colorful and cheerful collection, to create my banner. Along with the Banner Punch Board, I also grabbed the Clear Cut 2” Scallop Circle Punch, the Arches Edge Punch, and sharp scissors. My recommendation for keeping this project simple? Use the same formula for each banner you create. Let’s take a look at how I did that:

Valentine's Day Banner with the Banner Punch Board by Meghann Andrew for We R Memory Keepers

Starting with all pink and red papers sized at 4.5” x 5.5”, I cut seven background banners using the Banner Punch Board. For a contrasting pattern, I used the Lucky Us 6 x 8 paper pack to cut seven smaller banners from papers sized at 3” x 4.5” adhering them at the top center of the first banner. These banners needed some texture, so I cut seven 4.5” x 1” white cardstock pieces and punched them using the Arches Edge Punch, only adhering the top edge and running my finger along the bottom edge to lift it up from the banner background.

The next layer that I added to each banner was a colorful scalloped circle, cut using the Clear Cut 2” Scallop Circle Punch, which I used to help my chipboard alphas, spelling “Love You,” to stand out. Adding embellishment was the next step, and this is where I was able to make each banner different from the next, by choosing washi tapes, die cuts, cardstock stickers and puffy stickers for each piece.

Choosing different textured elements, like puffy stickers, cardstock and chipboard, in alternating colors makes each banner interesting and special! Once all seven of my banners was complete, I used the Banner Punch Board to punch holes at the top corner of each banner, and threaded washi tape to connect all of the banners together.

I am so excited to hang my banner on my mantle to remind my family how we feel about each other this Valentine’s Day! Thanks so much for stopping by, and I hope that you will give this banner a try using the Banner Punch Board.

Valentine’s Day Scrapbook Page

Hello everyone! It’s Eva on the blog today sharing a layout made with the Free style Foil Quill Pens.

Valentine's Day Scrapbook Page with the Foil Quill Freestyle Pen by Eva Pizarro for We R Memory Keepers

The Free Style Foil Quill Pens are amazing! I love that they are easy and fast to use, no need to attach them to the cutting machine! Plus, you can foil in many surfaces using one of the four different tips!

To create this layout I used the lovely Truly Grateful collection by Pink Paislee and used the Free Style Foil Quill Pen in three different ways.

1) Use a stencil to create foil images: This floral stencil for the Foil Quill is very cute and versatile! I used mine to create some foil flowers and leaves and then cut them out with my Precision Scissors.

Free-Style-Foil-Quill-Layout-By-Eva-Pizarro-2

2) Create a border using a ruler or a tear guide: This was very easy and I love the finished look, it looks almost like a stitched border.

Free-Style-Foil-Quill-Layout-By-Eva-Pizarro-3

3) Use the Free Style Pen to write your journaling: easy and cute! Write normally and then lift the foil to reveal your lovely handwritten words.

Look how the foil shines! You can have fun adding different colors and using even more techniques. For example, try the Free Style pens with your  Reflection Tracer or try stamping a image and then foiling over, you will love the results!

How to Make Valentine’s Day Cards with the Foil Quill

Hello there!  It’s Rebecca with you today, sharing my first WRMK project of 2020.

Valentine's Day Cards with the Foil Quill by Rebecca Luminarias for We R Memory Keepers

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner and I have a set of heartfelt cards that I made featuring the Foil Quill Pen Tool and my Silhouette Cameo.  It’s so easy to create your own paper designs with just a few steps.

Valentine's Day Cards with the Foil Quill by Rebecca Luminarias for We R Memory Keepers

First you’ll want to choose the designs to work with; mine came from the Amy Tangerine USB drive.  Being that my theme is Valentine’s Day, I chose a trio of hearts and an envelope with a heart closure.  I quickly created a design that covered an entire sheet of 8 1/2″ x 11 cardstock.  It was simple enough to copy and paste the design a few times to fill up the canvas.

Foil_Quill_Valentine_Cards_by_Rebecca_Luminarias_03Foil_Quill_Valentine_Cards_by_Rebecca_Luminarias_04

You can resize the original work as needed to suit the area you wish to fill.  I found the original sizes worked just fine.  With the new sheets of 12 x 12 foil, I was able to quickly cover the cardstock, trimming off a small amount of excess.

Foil_Quill_Valentine_Cards_by_Rebecca_Luminarias_05Foil_Quill_Valentine_Cards_by_Rebecca_Luminarias_06

It took just a few moments to print out with my Foil Quill Pen from my Cameo–I used the pink pen, which is the fine tip.  I used gold foil for the heart design on fuchsia paper and the magenta-pink foil on deep yellow cardstock for the envelopes.

Foil_Quill_Valentine_Cards_by_Rebecca_Luminarias_07

They came out so nice and clean and then it was time to create some cards!

Valentine's Day Cards with the Foil Quill by Rebecca Luminarias for We R Memory Keepers

With the addition of some Crate Paper La La Love stickers and ephemera, I was able to whip up some layered cards in no time.  For each card, I made sure that a good bit of my special foiled paper could be seen in the background.

For a bit more flare, I gave each panel a border of diagonal lines, cut out with my Revolution die cutting machine.  This provides a frame for the backdrops to be sure they don’t go unnoticed.

Valentine's Day Cards with the Foil Quill by Rebecca Luminarias for We R Memory Keepers

After each card had its layers of elements, the final touch for each one was a thread bow I created with The Works All-In-One Tool.  You can follow the basic guidelines for creating pompoms, which can be found in the instruction manual.  By winding the crochet thread around the pegs, and tying off in the middle, you get the makings for the bow; then just snip off the ends and even out with scissors.  I added some gold thread for something extra.

It’s so fun to create your own patterned paper–especially when it’s foiled and pretty for Valentine’s Day!

Valentine’s Day Tags with the Spinning Tool

The new year has started and next month is already Valentine’s Day. Therefore I played with the Spinning tool. To be a little bit prepared for this day, I created some tags. So first I chose the right papers, yarns and stickers.

Valentine's Day Tags with the Spinning Tool by Steffi Ried for We R Memory Keepers

With the Spinning tool you can do different things. Tassels, paper quilling and pom-poms.

First I created a few tassels with it. I connected the Spinning tool to the USB port on my computer. By spinning it you can create tassels very fast.

Valentine's Day Tags with the Spinning Tool by Steffi Ried for We R Memory Keepers

After that I tried Paper Quilling for the first time. I have seen many wonderful projects and was always totally fascinated. And so I first chose two very simple motifs. A circle and the heart. For a beginner these two motifs are easy to do with the spinning tool.

Valentine's Day Tags with the Spinning Tool by Steffi Ried for We R Memory Keepers

First I made a tag with hearts. I created a shaker pocket with the Fuse tool. For the hearts I cut 12 inch x ¼ inch paper strips and folded them in the middle. Then I rolled up each end with the Spinning Tool. For this the paper is clamped in the slit and then it is electrically rolled up to the fold.  In the photos you see it more exactly.

For the other tag I rolled up circles in different colours and sizes. For this I cut paper strips ¼ inch wide. The lengths are different.

Valentine's Day Tags with the Spinning Tool by Steffi Ried for We R Memory Keepers

First I made a tag and then I glued the circles on. For this I applied liquid glue on a paper and dipped the rolled circle into it with the tweezers.

The Spinning Tool is really fun. For my next project I will try some other forms of paper quilling.

Galentine’s Day Party with the Foil Quill

Hello everyone, I am Fanni Mayo and I am very happy to show you my first project for this wonderful DESIGN team of WRMK. Love is in the air, hearts flutter around us and we only think of Valentine’s Day; we go down the street, we turn around and everywhere we see hearts. Not only is Valentine’s Day a date to celebrate as a couple, it’s also a very nice day to have a good time with our friends, those that we may not see every day but who have always been there to make us smile, give us a hug when we need it and be part of all our crazy adventures. So it’s a good excuse to come together to celebrate friendship and remember all the good times you’ve had together.

When we get to a celebration it feels really nice to have your place decorated and even better you feel when this place is personalized, so you can add a tag with a kind phrase for each of your friends or an element like a flower with foil quill free style details to have that glowing touch that all the girls love.

The plates and a heart-shaped placement make that tag made with the mini envelope punch look great, the tag can obviously be made with your tag punch board, easily and quickly you have a very beautiful gift for your friends. Add a box made with the 1, 2, 3 punch board and fill it with sweets, so you’ll have place for your goodies.

Valentine’s Day Banner with the Fabric Quill

Hello We R Fans! Love is in the air and it is time to start creating for Valentine’s Day. I always love (ha) creating a special dinner for my family that night. And no self-respecting party is complete without decorations!

Valentine's Day Banner with the Fabric Quill by Kimberly Crawford for We R Memory Keepers

This banner made with several We R Memory Keepers tools will be the perfect touch to hang over the wall of our table!

Valentine's Day Banner with the Fabric Quill by Kimberly Crawford for We R Memory Keepers

The focal point of each pennant is this adorable heart drawn onto canvas with the We R Memory Keepers Fabric Quill Kit. The Fabric Quill kit comes with adaptors for all major digital die cutting machines and markers intended to be used on fabric. It was incredibly easy and smooth to use!

Valentine's Day Banner with the Fabric Quill by Kimberly Crawford for We R Memory Keepers

I began this project by adding some color to my canvas banners with the Cordless Marker Airbrush tool. I used pink and orange to create a subtle background of color.

Valentine's Day Banner with the Fabric Quill by Kimberly Crawford for We R Memory Keepers

After adding color to each pennant, it was time to run it through my digital die cutting machine. I added the correct adaptor for my machine into my second tool location. Then I removed the cover from the marker and placed it in the adaptor. The heart image was laid out in the software program and then sent to be drawn via the Pen Tool option. The tool went over the image twice, creating a strong and solid line. Impressive!

Please note that because of the thickness of the fabric at the top of the pennants, I placed it on the mat surface upside down. To accommodate this change, I also turned the image upside down in the software. Use the guides in the software that correlate to the mat surface for alignment.

Make tassels with The Works All In One Tool by We R Memory Keepers

Once the pennants were complete, I created four tassels using colored embroidery floss and the We R Memory Keepers The Works All-In-One tool. The included pegs and openings along with the instruction guide, helped make these easily.

fabric quill valentines banner Kimberly Crawford 6

To add more love, I punched glitter paper with the Clear Cut Punch. The small heart image added a sweet touch to each pennant.

Valentine's Day Banner with the Fabric Quill by Kimberly Crawford for We R Memory Keepers

When the pennants were finished, I string them back on their original cord. Then from that cord, I tied each of the tassels. This adorable project took minutes! I love tools that make crafting go smoothly!

How to Store Your Scrapbook Paper Scraps

Hey there, crafty friends! It’s Aly here today. How’s your new year going so far? If you’re anything like me, storage and organization have been on the brain! I’m trying to get my craft room back into an efficient and organized state for upcoming projects this year. So, today I’m sharing my favorite tip for storing and organizing your scrapbook paper scraps, because let’s face it, we all have them, right?

Paper Scrap Storage by Aly Dosdall for We R Memory Keepers

My favorite way to store my paper scraps is in the Expandable Paper Storage folders, and I organize them by color for cardstock, and by collection for patterned paper.

Paper Scrap Storage by Aly Dosdall for We R Memory Keepers

Inside each of the slots, I store the scraps in 12×12 Photo Sleeves so I can easily remove them when creating. I trim off the edge of the photos sleeves that has the holes so they’ll fit into the slots.

We R Memory Keepers Tab Punch and Typecast Typewriter

I created custom tabs by typing the different colors onto white cardstock, and then punching out the text with the Tab Punch. Then I slid the custom tabs into the tab holders on the dividers.

Paper Scrap Storage by Aly Dosdall for We R Memory Keepers

I keep my Expandable Paper Storage folders in the cubicles next to my desk so I can access them anytime I’m creating. So far it’s worked really well for me, and I feel like I’m using more of my paper scraps because they’re easy to find.
